Bonus: Beaded Filet Lace Heart Chart

Bitten by the Bead Bug? A Beaded Bonus for You!

I must admit I have bitten by the bead bug. It doesn’t take much effort to find a reason to add beads to almost everything. How about you? If you are like me, then we are bling buddies and this is for you.

Even though the I Heart Filet Lace pattern does not include instructions for adding beads, it’s easy to do so using what we’ve already covered in last year’s BOBBOL.

Adding beads to Filet Lace Knitting

If you’d like extra bling in your Filet Lace Heart, the crochet hook method of bead placement is ideal. Just place a bead on the yokp stitches in whatever arrangement you want to embellish the motif. For example, here is a version of the heart chart where beads outline the outer and inner edges of the solid area.

For this arrangement, you will need 46 beads for each heart. I used size 6/0 seed beads (4 mm diameter) similar to what we used in the Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch and Dolly’s Top-Down Tri Shawl that also use fingering weight yarn and the hooking beads method.  The holes in size 6/0 beads are a good size to accommodate the 2 strands of yarn that needs to be pulled through the bead hole (i.e. both sides of the stitch loop).

So that the bead shows to its fullest while letting the yokp elongate properly, I find it best to hook the bead onto the yokp stitch after the yokp stitch sequence has been completed. I’ve abbreviated that in the chart key as yokp-hook bead.

Have fun beading!
