As promised earlier this month, here are the instruction changes needed in your Tea-time Serviette pattern to make a smaller-sized variation. This makes a nice companion piece as a large beverage coaster or teapot mat to protect your table.
Because the bias portion of the center area pattern is omitted, there is no auto-magic fluted edge and the overall piece is a bit less fancy. On the other hand, this smaller size with fewer stitches means this project is quicker and easier than the full-size serviette. So if you are not feeling up to the larger project, or just want to play around with this additional companion piece, this is how to mark up your Tea-time Serviette pattern to make this variation —
Size
Approx 6″ (15 cm) square
Materials and Supplies
Reduce amount of thread needed to approx 40 yards (37 m).
If you use beads, you will need only 128 (approx 3.25 g)
Cast On
Cast on only 160 sts.
Petit Scallop
If you do not use beads as shown here in my sample, omit the Set-up row of the Petit Scallop Edging.
After Row 1, you will have 64 sts.
After Rnd 2, you will have 128 sts.
Substitute this for Rnd 4: (p2tog, p30, place mkr) 4 times. (31 sts per section; 124 sts total)
Center Area
Skip rnds 1 – 12.
Substitute this for odd-numbered rnds 13 – 19: k1, (ssk, yo) 2 times, ssk, k to last 7 sts of a section, k2tog, (yo, k2tog) 2 times, k1.
Then work the rest of the Center Area as given.
Finishing, Dyeing and Blocking
Same as for Serviette. Dyeing is optional (my sample is un-dyed).
I hope you enjoy adding this piece to your tea service. Happy knitting!
It is worth my while trying. I will make at least 6 for my tea time with my friends
