November Giveaway Prize: Bitty Beady Christmas Tree Gift Kit
Congratulations to Teresa Lester, winner of the November Prize Drawing.
Teresa wrote: “Thank you so much!! I really love this pattern and the choices of yarn and bead colors. I think I like the pine green with the pearl beads combination the best though. And I’d be so grateful to have you string the beads for me. I have to use a magnifying glass every time I try to do it myself 🙁 Glasses aren’t strong enough I guess!“ Thanks to everyone participating, sharing and supporting the KALs and Prize Giveaways. I couldn’t keep KnitHeartStrings going without you. |
In time for gift-giving season, this month’s KAL prize drawing is for HeartStrings’ most popular design for holiday decorating: Bitty Beady Christmas Tree. Bead “ornaments” peek in and out of the trellis lace branches on this tiny traditional-looking Christmas tree. The branch tips are formed with serrated edging, giving a realistic look.
The prize is a complete kit including hard-copy pattern, yarn and beads to make one bitty tree in your choice of color combos, along with a coordinating greeting card and matching envelope.
Knit and give the little tree as a gift (maybe even keep it for yourself?). Or gift the kit to a knitting friend to make for themselves.
There are 20 holiday color combos offered. I’ll even string the beads on the yarn for you if you want. Check out the color offerings for Bitty Beady Christmas Tree in the KnitHeartStrings Online Store.
The coordinating greeting card with matching envelope makes a nice gift enclosure to go along with either giving the kit itself, or with your completed bitty tree.
October Giveaway: Luxury Smoke Ring Kit
Congratulations to Carole Moraine, winner of the October Prize Drawing. Thanks to everyone participating, sharing and supporting the KALs and Prize Giveaways. I couldn’t keep KnitHeartStrings going without you. |

- A continuous skein of luxury yarn (50% baby alpaca, 25% merino, 25% angora) that is enough to complete the smoke ring of your choice in the color of your choice (either natural gray or natural white); the yarn has been washed and skeined, and is ready for you to wind into a ball to knit your smoke ring
September Giveaway: The Skinny on Lace Kit
Congratulations to Mary Jo Schultz, winner of the September Prize Drawing.
Mary Jo wrote: “I’m so excited to win this. It is on my list of future projects. Am currently making a few more of the beaded pumpkins as thank you gifts. Although I’ve been knitting for over 50 years each time I work thru your project I am finding hints and help to improve the quality of my work. Thank you for making learning so easy and enjoyable.“ Thanks to everyone participating, sharing and supporting the KALs and Prize Giveaways. I couldn’t keep KnitHeartStrings going without you. |
September Giveaway Prize: The Skinny on Lace Kit
Create a statement in lace, and wear it with pizzazz. Slimming chevrons and stylized fleur-de-lis arranged symmetrically in narrow lace bands are knitted from end- to-end in one piece — no grafting or seams to sew! This design is ideal for those who like their scarf ends to match without the hassle of grafting or provisional cast ons.
Kit includes —
- 2 balls Fonty Velourine cotton and rayon blend yarn, in a lovely deep burgundy color to make the Long Wrap Scarf as pictured. Velourine is a chenille yarn wrapped with a shiny, novelty thread. This makes it easy to work with and not “worm” like chenille yarns can often do.
- Personally autographed, hard-copy pattern for #A87 The Skinny on Lace which includes instructions for the Long Wrap Scarf, as well as 2 other “skinny” projects: Skinny Necktie and Skinny Sash.

I’m so excited and you DO have the correct shipping address. Thank you so much……this will be fun.“Thanks to everyone who participated in the August KAL and Prize Giveaways. April Giveaway: Zephyr-In-A-Net Lace Yarn and Shawl Pattern
Congratulations go to Wendy Gilmore, winner of the April Prize Drawing. Thanks to everyone who participated in the April KAL and Giveaway.Wendy wrote: “I am so honored to win … Thank you for your generosity – and your talent! Red is my favorite color!!! And I love the feather and fan pattern. I think I will add some beads to it – I just love the subtle sparkle! … Take good care, and I look forward to future designs, tutorials and KAL’s.“ |
I’m pleased to offer another specially prepared prize for the wonderful members of KnitHeartStrings. Win Jaggerspun Zephyr silk/wool yarn in vibrant garnet red, plus a full-color printed and autographed shawl pattern.
This prize includes:
- 500 yards of Jaggerspun Zephyr 2/18 Wool/Silk Lace Yarn in color Garnet Red. This yarn is wound into a center-pull ball and ready for you to knit. The center-pull ball is cradled in a squishy net mesh sleeve to help the fine yarn feed smoothly.
- Autographed copy of the Elegantly Simple Triangle Shawl pattern.
- After you finish the yarn, the net mesh sleeve can be re-used when washing small delicate items or keeping socks sorted.
Jaggerspun Zephyr yarn is a favorite of lace knitters. If you’ve used Zephyr before, you already know the treat that is in store for you. If you haven’t tried this yarn yet, be prepared to be thrilled with how pleasant it is to knit and wear.
Elegantly Simple Triangle Shawl pattern is a lovely, fan-shaped design that begins at the point and is knit in one of those lovely laces based on the Shetland feather and fan stitch. There is enough Jaggerspun Zephyr yarn in this prize to make a shoulder wrap size. The bound-off long edge can be finished in your choice of dramatic points or graceful scallops.
There is so much movement and interest in the pattern that it may look more difficult to do than it really is. Hint-hint: You’ll have a chance to practice the basic pattern stitch for the June KAL, although we will not be knitting this shawl pattern itself for the KAL.
March Giveaway: Black Watch Special Edition Yarn and Beads Kit
Congratulations go to Susan Barnhorst, winner of the March Prize Drawing. Thanks to everyone who entered. Susan wrote: “Oh, my gosh, Jackie! I can’t believe it! My luck must be changing. Hurray! Thank you so much … Again, yaaaaay! Many thanks. Especially thanks for all the teaching you provide via your website. It is truly an invaluable resource!“ |
This prize includes:
- 2 oz/215 yards of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock 4-ply fingering weight 80% superwash wool and 20% nylon, in color Black Watch, wound into a center-pull ball and ready for you to knit
- 30g size 6/0 Miyuki beads in your choice of either #277 Green-lined Crystal AB or #269 Ice Blue-lined Crystal AB; these are my favorites to give sparkly tone-on-tone accents with this yarn (or you can also make your own color selection from the other in-stock beads listed here)
- Autographed, full-color printed pattern for the new Spring Raindrops Scarf
The yarn and color is the same as shown worked up for the sample knitted in the main photo for the March KAL project Narrow Lace Leaves Scarf.
Of course, you don’t have to use this yarn for that particular scarf (or even for socks, which it would seem that the yarn implies). This yarn is luscious-feeling, yet sturdy. There is plenty enough yarn to use for 1-skein projects such as scarves, hats/berets, etc.
The glass seed beads are high quality Miyuki size 6/0 (4 mm diameter), the size suitable for placing on fingering weight yarn with the crochet hook method. The Narrow Lace Leaves Scarf pattern does not include instructions for beading, but I will be including a bonus support article for this during the March KAL, and you can also get other ideas from previous KAL projects such as the Pretty Awesome Yarn Pouch and Dolly’s top-Down Tri Shawl).
February Giveaway: Heart’s Desire Special Edition Prize
Congratulations go to Pat Moore, winner of the February Prize Drawing. Thanks to everyone who entered. Pat wrote; “I am tickled. One of my first yarn-loves was the Lorna’s Lace line. I have several pairs of socks that I’ve knitted from LL’s Shepherd Sock. Also, I’m enjoying the St. Paddy’s Day cozy. I’d forgotten how much pleasure I derive from working with beads and yarn together. You are feeding my addiction.
Thank you very much. This is the proverbial icing on the inspiration cake that you serve to us regularly!“

No other month of the year says “pink” to me as much as February. How about you? So, for the February giveaway, I’ve put together a special edition kit of yarn and beads for you to play with and create whatever your heart desires.
This prize includes yarn and beads to play with in whatever way you want:
- 2 skeins of yarn, each in a different, yet compatible colorway
- beads in contrast color for bold design accents
- beads for sparkly tone-on-tone accents
Each skein is 2 oz (57 g) / 215 yards of Lorna’s Lace Shepherd Sock 4-ply fingering weight 80% superwash wool and 20% nylon. 4 oz (114 g) / 430 yards total.
The colorway on the left is called “Girly Stripe”; the one on the right is “Tickled Pink”.
This yarn is luscious-feeling, yet sturdy. There is plenty enough yarn to use for separate 1-skein projects such as scarves, hats/berets, etc. Or use together for one-of-kind, serendipitous color play.
The glass seed beads are high quality Miyuki size 6/0 (4 mm diameter) in 2 colors of 10 g (approx 120 beads) each: silver-lined violet and silver-lined crystal. A total of 20 g (approx 240 beads).
If you need inspiration or guidance on using beads, there are lots of ideas in lessons we’ve had for past KAL’s, with even more to come in some of the future KAL’s.
January 2014 Giveaway – Set of Waffle Weave Towels: Hearts and Cats at Play
